Meet John

After growing up in Durham and Cary, John first arrived in Raleigh in 1997 to attend NC State. He graduated in 2001 with a degree in marketing and moved to New York City where his life was forever changed after surviving the attack on the World Trade Center. For his acts of heroism and service, John received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Mike Easley in the halftime ceremony of that season’s NC State vs. UNC football game.

Having experienced first-hand the perseverance of humanity, John found new passion in a commitment to relationships, community, and a future of resilience.

John returned to Raleigh in 2011 and currently lives in District E with his loving wife, Melissa, and their daughter.

Personal Life

Professionally Speaking

John earned an MBA from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, where he studied urban planning and organizational change, strengthening a career centered on understanding people, solving complex problems, and giving back to the community.

He helped found Skate Raleigh, a non-profit that brought the Conlon Family Skate Park downtown, demonstrating the power of public-private partnerships. John also volunteer coaches the junior varsity basketball team at Our Lady of Lourdes, with his daughter on the team.

In his current professional life, John helps organizations manage and work through the impacts of change. This provides him with a unique ability to meet diverse parties where they are and understand their concerns, working toward common ground and effective solutions.

Raleigh is a growing city ripe with technological innovation, artistic creativity, open spaces, and community spirit. John’s running for Raleigh City Council, District E, to guide our city’s growth in a way that enhances our quality of life while preserving its unique character.
