Community Leader John Cerqueira to Champion Responsible Growth in Raleigh City Council District E Bid

DRALEIGH, NC, March 20, 2024 – John Cerqueira, a change-management consultant and dedicated community member, officially announces his candidacy for Raleigh City Council, District E. With a rich history of fostering community growth and championing responsible development, Cerqueira aims to leverage his unique experience to guide Raleigh into its next chapter.

Raleigh, NC – Bringing a fresh perspective to Raleigh’s political landscape, John Cerqueira has declared his intention to run for a seat on the City Council under District E. As a Raleigh stalwart and change-management expert, Cequeira’s campaign is grounded in responsibly balancing Raleigh's rapid development while preserving its cherished community feel.

"Having witnessed Raleigh's transformation, I am inspired to contribute to its future by ensuring growth and community values align," says Cerqueira.

As Raleigh faces new challenges, Cerqueira steps forward with a platform focused on accommodating population growth in a way that preserves the city’s character and continues to serve Raleigh as a whole. He recognizes the nuanced discussion this requires and the creative solutions needed to make sure all sides are heard. With a professional career in change-management, Cerqueira is well-versed in the importance of meeting all parties where they are, understanding varied concerns, finding common ground and then moving forward with thoughtful consideration and efficiency. 

Cerqueira was able to experience the importance of working with multiple parties as he co-founded Skate Raleigh, a public/private partnership that worked with the City of Raleigh to bring a skatepark to the site of the future Smokey Hollow Park on Capital Blvd.This effort has brought life to an underused part of our city and is used by people of all ages and backgrounds. 

“Volunteering my time to help bring Skate Raleigh to fruition was a great example of how I can contribute my experience to create effective and efficient outcomes,” said Cerqueira. “I realized during that project that I would like to take my commitment to Raleigh even further by running for City Council.”

About John Cerqueira

Cerqueira has been a part of the Raleigh community for decades, actively involved in his neighborhood association, Skate Raleigh, Backpack Buddies and many more. He attended NC State and went on to obtain his MBA from UNC Kenan Flagler Business School where he took urban planning as part of his coursework. After surviving the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City and being recognized by Raleigh’s civic leaders for his heroic contributions on that day, Cerqueira dedicated his life to helping others reach their full potential.
